If you are new to surrogacy, you will likely have lots of questions about the process, timeline and if you are a good fit to become a Fearless Surrogate. You want to become a Fearless Surrogate- GREAT! Now what?
Step 1: Complete the quiz to see if you qualify, or reach out to Fearless here!
Step 2: Schedule a Zoom or in-person meeting with Romney, our Surrogate Support and Anna, the founder of Fearless!
Step 3: We will ask you to collect some information, meet with one of our counsellors and begin filling out your profile
Step 4: Begin browsing profiles! Take your time, ask Romney questions about our families and when you’re ready, let us know who you would like to meet!
Step 5: We will share your profile with the Intended Parents you are interested in meeting, and if all parties are agreeable, we will introduce you!
A few things you should know:
Surrogacy in Canada is based on an altruistic model. Surrogates cannot be paid to carry a pregnancy for Intended Parents, however they are reimbursed for all pregnancy related expenses. On average, a Surrogate is reimbursed between $25,000-$30,000.
As a Surrogate you should not be out of pocket for any expenses related to the pregnancy. Here are some common expenses reimbursed through a surrogacy Journey:
Legal Fees for your own Fertility Lawyer
Basic Monthly Reimbursement ($25 000 - $30 000) *this is spread over the duration of pregnancy. Examples of expenses include:
Groceries, childcare, parking fees, clothing and more
IVF and Pregnancy Medication
IVF Transfer Support (Eg. Acupuncture)
Multiple Pregnancy Expenses
Invasive Procedure Expenses (eg. C-section, hysterectomy, reduction, etc.)
Travel Expenses
Lodging Expenses
Bedrest Expenses (on a weekly basis)
Lost wages
Life Insurance
Doula Fees
Counselling Support
Requirements to become a Surrogate:
Between the ages of 21-49
Must be a Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident
Have delivered at least one child of your own (exceptions can be made on a case by case basis for individuals who have chosen to not have children of their own)
No history of serious pregnancy complications
Non-smoker including cannabis
Non-drug user
Financially stable
Willing to undergo both medical and psychological screening (partner must also undergo screening)
No serious health issues
Willing to take IVF medication which may include injections
Have support from family and friends
Willing to travel to the Intended Parent(s) fertility clinic
No criminal record
